Getting Something Down

It's been a while since I've worked on the site. Honestly, it was a lower urgency than the other projects I've been involved in. I'm not sure I would have tried to post anything tonight, but I had a few moments and my chromebook handy.

While I haven't been writing a lot here, I've been doing a good bit of thinking about the site itself and especially the different types of posts that I want to include on the site. The ones where I'm describing how I recommend to use a technology, while they take a little while to write don't bother me too much. However, there's a type of post where I'm talking about an idea that I'm a little worried I may run into trouble. The issue at hand is that I've read a lot of books, and honestly most of the ideas I have on how to improve things are either directly from a book or a synthesis of several different books I've read. And I've been reading in this genre for so long, I'm not sure what is my thought and what is from somewhere.

Being realistic for a minute, I'm not writing anything here for any direct commercial purposes, so I'm not worried from a legal standpoint, but more that I feel like if I've managed to remember someone's idea for this long, I want to give them credit. So from that standpoint, maybe I'll take a swing at writing something in a more thoughtful vein, but I probably will hold off for now. From a practical standpoint, witing a post like that sort of violates my idea about building this site with frequent and sometimes incomplete updates, so for those I may build up a separate git repo and post them once I'm happy.

Speaking of Git, that's my next note. I actually had started working on it a few nights ago, but I didn't get very far. I don't consider myself a grand expert on it. I rarely work on a repo concurrently with anyone, so if I need to do so from the command line, I have to search for the right commands to use. From that standpoint, writing a note on Git will probably be useful.

While I may not be an expert on certain aspects, I'm definately a huge fan of the technology. I can't tell you in my history how incredibly useful something like git would have been. The very act of just creating a local git repo so you have some comparison to where you started would be great. My only complaint is that I can't use Git on more things.
