Rediscovering hobbies

I never intended to go a while without posting anything, but life has been busy and things just happened. I still have this idea that I should make writing more of my daily practice. I think to do that more, I'll probably have to take more of a creative writing focus, and maybe some day I will.

Recently, I've been doing some research and getting back into smart home and home automation tasks. In the last several years I got away from most of that, save a few smart bulbs and light switches. What got me excited recently was learning more about Home Assistant. The ability to set it up and tinker has me excited. I've been trying to add a few features each day, which has been fun.

We've been trying to carve out our house a bit to dedicate space to things we actually want to accomplish. I'm not sure this will be entirely successful, for instance I've seen plenty of home gyms that are well laid out and seldom used, but if the space doesn't exist that is enough of a psychological hurdle to prevent something from happening too. For me, It's been a workshop space. I have a smattering of tools and I've done some things to prepare the space and somewhat organize, but the next steps have been sitting undone. Hopefully I can warp the idea of the space enough to get excited about the space.

For the past week or so, I've been trying to dedicate small amounts of time toward projects. Rather than spend a Saturday morning, maybe spend 20 minutes in an evening. I've also been experimenting with short exercise. It's a little harder in that I don't get the emotional payoff of a big instant change, but at the same time when I sit back and look at the overall picture, I've made more change with the little moves than I otherwise would have accomplished. It just takes patience and diligence.
